Southwest Slendors Adventures by Disney Day Five

Adventures by Disney Add comments

It was time to move on and see more of the American Southwest. We said goodbye to the Grand Canyon and the Thunderbird Lodge. Disney took our bags at 7am so Tom is only carrying our personal bags.

We were back on the bus and headed to our next destination, Monument Valley. But, first we had to drive through the Bad Lands.

Are we on another planet?

Wild horses run free!

Does the scene below look familiar? Run, Forrest, Run!

It is Monument Valley Mile Marker 13, the spot where Forrest stopped running.

Our first monument sighting! We stopped for lunch at Gouldings featuring regional  favorites including Navajo Tacos. We stretched our legs and did some shopping for crafts and gifts made by local artists.

The monuments are in view. We can't wait to get close to these amazing natural wonders.

This one looks like a giant lion. Disney fans will see the famous villian, Scar.

We boarded open air jeeps and set out across the red sandy landscape. Bring a bandana to keep the dust out of your eyes and nose and a cushion since it's bumpy ride. It can get hot so I brought a bandana that you dip in water and it retains the moisture to keep you cool such as Icy Bandana.

A horse and his master were waiting to take a picture with visitors for a few dollars.

There was a little marketplace set up with food and Native American gifts

Balancing rocks defy gravity.

Natural Chevrons create geometric patterns on the mountainsides.

After a 326 mile journey from Arizona to Utah, we arrive at our final lodging, Red Cliffs Lodge in Moab.

The Colorado River borders the lodge property.

The Red Cliffs paint a natural backdrop.

Suites boast incredible views and comfort.

Cabins located along the Colorado River feature a full kitchen.

Horses leisurely grazing in the pasture.

A friendly cow peeks through a rustic fence.

Teepees - fun for kids to pretend and play.

We watched the Red Cliffs change color as the sun set on another day of breathtaking scenery. We were  glad to relax and enjoy dinner outside on the deck at the lodge restaurant featuring western favorites.
