Sailing on the Disney Fantasy 7-night Eastern Caribbean Cruise
by Small World Vacations’ Agent, Jenny

My family and I recently experienced the 7-night Eastern Caribbean Cruise on the Disney Fantasy and absolutely loved it.  For anyone that enjoys longer cruises and tropical destinations, this is the itinerary for you!  We had 3 wonderful days at sea to explore the Disney Fantasy and stopped for port days in Tortola (in the British Virgin Islands), St. Thomas (in the U.S. Virgin Islands) and at Disney’s amazing Castaway Cay private island in the Bahamas.

Here are some highlights of our cruise vacation:

Since we had 5 people total in our travel party of my mom, 3 children and myself, we decided to book connecting staterooms to give ourselves some extra room to spread out in and a little more privacy.  We booked Category 4E – Deluxe Family Oceanview Staterooms with Extended Verandahs, which were absolutely wonderful.  The partition between the two verandahs  was opened up by our stateroom host to create one oversized verandah for all of us to share.  With 4 chairs on each side of the verandah, we spent many hours each day enjoying our private verandah space.  For any larger group that needs multiple staterooms, the ability to book connecting staterooms (especially those with connecting verandahs) is such a great option to spend more private time together while enjoying the views of the ocean and the ports throughout the cruise.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Our first port of call on the cruise was the beautiful island of Tortola, which is just getting back on its feet from being hit by Hurricane Irma in 2017.  We decided to book the Island Drive and Beach Break excursion, which did not require an extended amount of walking or hiking.  We toured through the town and up the mountain in open-air safari buses and then spent some time at Cane Garden Bay Beach. Other excursion options for Tortola include snorkeling tours, jeep tours, visiting Jost Van Dyke Beach and the very popular Day at The Baths excursion to hike and explore the hidden caves and sea pools.

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Our next port of call was our favorite one, which was the island of St. Thomas.  The mountainside there is stunning and you truly feel like you are in the middle of a lush island retreat.  We chose the Kon Tiki Sightseeing, Fun and Beach Tour boat excursion, which was incredibly fun for all of us.  We cruised on the Kon Tiki directly from the dock along the St. Thomas shoreline and then spent a couple hours at Honeymoon Beach. This was a great excursion for all of our different ages and we loved the activities on the boat including a live steel drum band playing fun island songs, a limbo contest and glass bottom viewing above a tropical reef.  Other excursion options for St. Thomas include sailing on catamarans, visiting Coral World Aquarium, island tours, a day at Magen’s Bay Beach or taking a ferry over to St. John.

Castaway Cay

Our final port of call was at Disney’s gorgeous private island, which is Castaway Cay in the Bahamas. Castaway Cay is the highlight of any Disney Cruise itinerary that stops there and truly offers everything that one could dream for on a tropical private island.  We spent our day there swimming in the lagoon, playing on the water slides, sunbathing in the beach chairs and eating the delicious barbeque lunch that is provided for everyone.  We always love our time at Castaway Cay and we miss it when we leave!

Onboard Activities and Dining

With 3 full days at sea, this itinerary gives guests so much more time to take advantage of everything that the ship offers.  We were able to eat dinner at each of the dining rooms multiple times, watch most of the movies that were showing in the movie theater and the shows in the Walt Disney Theater, visit with characters (including Thor!), play games such as family trivia and bingo, ride the Aqua Duck Water Coaster and the water slide many times, my kids spent quality time in the kids clubs and so much more!  The Disney service was impeccable, the ship was so clean throughout the entire cruise and our time having fun together and making lifelong family memories went by so fast.

We can’t wait for our next Disney Cruise vacation together!
