Disney Thrills at the elecTRONica Event in Walt Disney World

Enter the grid with Small World Vacations! We were invited to a special Disney Thrills event at Walt Disney World to check out a sneak peek of Walt Disney World’s newest thrill ride: TRON Lightcycle / Run.

First we entered through an illuminated Disney Thrills door that set the vibe! After passing through a magical fog we were greeted by Goofy in his new light-up TRON outfit dancing to techno tunes.

There were lots of TRON-inspired bites, desserts and beverages, including a Lightcycle ice sculpture!

The ride opened after a special dedication ceremony with Mickey, Minnie, and actors from the original TRON film! We got up close to the amazing canopy that covers the outdoor area of the coaster.

The canopy looks different from every angle, and you can even see Space Mountain in the distance for an on-theme futuristic view. This is also a great spot to view the fireworks from!

While waiting in line for the attraction we saw a giant digitizing laser, which is the conduit by which users pass from the real world into the TRON world.

Next you enter into an enclosed room facing a screen the size of the entire wall. After getting digitized, the screen disappears to reveal you are now a user inside the TRON system!

After exiting the room, you enter the grid. All the backgrounds are black so your visuals are defined by cool blue light on glass enclosures and hallways. It truly feels like you are inside a computer!

Before you board your Lightcycle you need to store your belongings in a locker, which was a fast easy process.

Next it’s time to get on the attraction! There is one last walkway that you follow down to the left or right to the boarding area. In the center is a huge video screen explaining your mission to beat Team Orange in your Lightcyle race.

The last row has accessible seats with a lapbar, instead of leaning forward on a motorcycle like the rest of the ride vehicles.

The ride itself is incredible, especially the launch outside where you feel like you are racing your Lightcycle through the sky! There is a recovery zone afterwards near the exit in case you need to take a moment before you re-enter the real world.

Before you exit there is a Team Green area with an area where Photopass photographers can take your pic next to a life-sized Lightcycle.

Just outside the ride is a store with all-new TRON merch that all looks futuristic.

As the elecTRONica event came to a close, we got to meet Mickey and Minnie in their new TRON-inspired ensembles!

The grand finale of the night was seeing fan-favorite nighttime fireworks spectacular Happily Ever After return to the Magic Kingdom at a special preview. It was definitely a night full of Disney Thrills!
